Delegate or self assign your role in a Project or Activity

Our team of designers have all the briefs come into all of the team and then they pick up the project for the rest of the workflow. We do this with a very complex workflow and the use of both Activity and project roles. It'd be much better if they could assign themselves as the designer and basically instruct the project roles that they are doing the rest of the designer tasks not the whole team. To take this a step further it'd be good if for your own role you could delegate that to another user, so a designer could not just delegate a task but update who was assigned to the designer role.
